How do I create a MOS certification exam session for my course?

Please note these instructions are intended to be used by faculty who are teaching a Microsoft Office course at Goldey-Beacom College.

Answer

Exam sessions will need to be created once for each course session. For example, if you are teaching three-course sections that use Microsoft Office, you will need to create three exam sessions. Follow the steps below to create your MOS certification exam session for your course.

1. Navigate to https://www.certiport.com/portal/SSL/Login.aspx

2. Enter your username (#1 below) and password (#2 below), and then click login (#3 below).

If you do not have a Certiport instructor account, please visit https://gbc.libanswers.com/oirt-edtech/faq/377183 for step-by-step directions on creating your Certiport account.

3. At the top, it now says, "Welcome, your first name, and Proctor". If necessary, change your profile to Proctor, by clicking on the drop-down box if you are seeing anything other than "Proctor", as shown below.

4. Next, click Exams from Home - Remote exam proctoring, as shown below.

5. Next, click the Create and Manage Exam Sessions link.

6. Next, enter a session name. This will not be displayed to candidates and is used just for your reference. For example, you can use your course code, ITG 149 - F2F 01.

7. Next, click Create Session, as shown below.

8. Edit the following criteria in the screenshot below to be the following:

  • Select Goldey-Beacom College as the Testing center (#1 below).
  • Select English as the Exam language (#2 below).
  • Enter the total number of students in your class in the textbox for Number of candidates (#3 below).
  • Click Next (#4 below).

9. You can search for specific exams. Use the Search for specific exams textbox to search for your course subject, as shown below.

10. From the filtered list, select your exam name. We are currently using Office 2019, so please ensure you select the Office 2019 exam version. We will not be using the expert exams, so select the Microsoft XXXXXXXXXX (Office 2019) version.

11. Use the following criteria to select the date and time of the exam.

  • If necessary, ensure that the exam is in Eastern Time (#1 below).
  • Select the date your exam will be held (#2 below).
  • Specify the start time of your exam (#3 below).
  • Click Submit (#4 below).

12. This next screen tells you that you're going to send the exam confirmation email to the proctor, and you'll receive two emails at your email address. One will be the Proctor Confirmation email, and the other will be the candidate exam access email, and you'll forward that to your candidates. You should review these confirmation emails. Click Send confirmation emails to review your emails, as shown below.

Below is a screenshot of the two confirmation emails you will receive.

The one on the left says this is for the test candidate, and this is the one you would forward to the students in your class section. It gives the exam name, the date, the time, and a link to download the secure browser client required to take the MOS exam. The secure browser runs on both Windows and Mac computers. There's also a Chromebook app, so Certiport recommends going to the site using the link ahead of time to verify that they have full ability to download the software. If they are using a GBC computer, we have tested this capability, and it works fine. If they are using their own laptops, we highly recommend that they test this first. This email also talks about the importance of having them register and confirm their username and password with Certiport at least one hour before joining the exam. We recommend that they test their login to Certiport several days in advance.

The one on the right is the one for you, the proctor, and again this contains information on the exam, including the access code. The difference between the two is that the exam session link is different, and this will be for the proctors due to the exam environment.

The email will say 2019, not 2016 like it says in the screenshot.

12. On the Ceritport dashboard, you will now see the exam(s) you created, as shown below. From here, you can start your session, resend the two confirmation emails, view your exam details, or cancel the exam.
